Cosmology and Philosophy, the Lyon conference

From 12 to 14 October 2009 in Lyon, physicists, cosmologists and philosophers have interacted on the status of modern cosmology. Much of the action was filmed. As promised, here are the videos.Planck is currently mapping the CMB, the LHC begins to produce collisions at energies never before reached on Earth
and that we approach the first billionths of a second start of the observable universe. These instruments may reveal an image of the universe that has philosophical implications and cultural hardly imaginable today. The decade that will soon open could be as revolutionary as the Greek or the Miracle Grand Century which saw the birth of modern science in the hands of Galileo, Kepler and
Newton and many others, such as Descartes or Leibniz.
Quantum mechanics and general relativity have profoundly changed our worldview, and life itself, but it was probably a prelude to the thought as the great thinker and physicist John Wheeler. Before the revolution that prepares probably more than ever a dialogue between philosophers and cosmologists becomes necessary. Therefore the presentations that took place at the Lyon conference are good starting points for exploring the multiple relationships, some are very old, between philosophy and cosmology.
